SUCCESSFUL MEETING
By Telegraph.—(Special Correspondent.! Mastorton, March 10. Tho Wairarapa. Friendly Societies' Patriotic Carnival was concluded to-day in fine but cloudy weather. In tho afternoon tho Wellington Proyincial Athlotic Championship was held in tho public paj'k, in tlio presenco of a largo gathering. Wairara-pa- succeeded in retaining the M'Villy Shield, the points scored being as follow: — Wairarapa 86 Wellington 37 Victoria College 25 Hutfc 't Athlotic In tlie evening a monster lantern procession was held, followed by a masquerade assemblage in the park. Tho whole function was a success. The results of the provincial events were as follow :— Higli Jump Championship.—sl. Noilson (Wairarapa), 1; A. J. Morgan (Wairarapa), 2: S. Prngnell (Wairarapa), 3. 880 Yards Championship.—E. Kilminstor (Wairarapa), 1; J. Bradbury, 2; G. H. Tr'essiaer, 3. Bradbury led to the straight, when Kilminster came with a rush and won on the tape. Time, 2min. 6 <i-ssec.
Mile Walk Championship.—A. E. Rowlands (Wellington), 1; T. Mebton (Wairarapa), 2; W. Candy (Wairarapa\ 3. There were only three starters, ana Rowlands won with something to spare. Z2O Yards Championship.—D. O'Sullivan (Victoria College), 1; R. Adams (Athletic), 2; W. Candy (Wairarapa), 3. Polo Vault Championship.—G. Harvey (Wairarapa), 10ft. 6in., 1; S. Pragnelt (Wairarapa), 2. 120 Yards Hurdlo Championship.—\V. Hughes (Wairarapri), 1; Si. O'Sullivan (Victoria College), 2; F. Kilmiiister (Wairarapa), 3.
