ROYAL FLYING CORPS

OPENINGS FOR NEW ZEALANDERS

It is announced' in General Orders that information has been received from fclio Imperial Government that candidates for commissions in the Royal Flying Corps will ho acccpted under certain conditions. Mechanics cannot bo accepted for the Royal Plying Corps at present, as it has been notified that the establishment has been completed. The Imperial Government 'will grant free passages for 'officers who are recommended by tlia New Zealand Defence Department, but if they prove unable to graduato as military pilots after instruction they will be transferred for service with tlie infantry of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. All candidates must be —(a) Between the ages of eighteen and thirty; ; (b) pass the usual medical examination for candidates as laid down in the regulations. In addition they must satisfy tiro Medical Board on the following points in particular:—(i) Be in posseesion of normal eyesight without glasses; (ii) not suffer from deafness or from any form of middle-ear disease; (iii) that their respiratory, circulatory, and.nervous systems arc normal, (c) Hold a commission in the Dominion Military Forces., The New Zealand Government _ will consider the granting of a commission to any suitable gentleman who may qualify for an aviator's certificate under the rules of the Royal Aero Club, and who fulfils all other conditions. But suoh gentleman must be British-born, and son of British-born parents. Sons of aliens- or of naturalised aliens cannot be recommended under any circumstances.
