NAPIER PARK RACES
By Telegraph.— (Spocial Correspondent! Napier, March 10. The Napior Park Autunin Meeting opened under fairly favourable conditions. Several showers fell. The attendance was very satisfactory. The totalisator investments were ,£16,040, as against .£14,451 on tho same day last year. All the acceptors went to the post for tho H*ack Hurdles, which was a tamo event, and was \yon very easily by Sensitive. The winner was in front practically throughout. Brunswick was nearest to him at the last fence, and had been taking off with Sensitive and keeping oil the track, but he toppled over 'hero, and Scorch came dojvn on; top of him. iGladful, who jumped better- to-day, got second, and Ivooya third. Wirokino and Tipatipa were never dangerous. Goscomb, rider of Scorch, had liis collarbone broken. The stipendiary stewards admonished the rider of Kooya foi not putting inore vigour into his work. Hydros; who is only a three-year-old, and was carrying 9st. 91b., was the beat backed in the Esk Handicap, for which several of the others were well supported, 'l'ho, favourite could not begin, and lost his. position, but finished on well.-just outsido the placed division. Marimba slipped the field at tho barrier rise, and was not extended on tho journey. Maryland did not begin well, but got into second placc-at the bottom of pe straight and stayed there. Carlysian was prominent early, but did not see it out. A big bunch crossed the post in a lino for third place, and the judge placed the English colt, Jack Jellicoe, in that position. Price, rider'of Paraoa, complained of interference by Morris, on Pendant. No action was. taken. Multicipal was withdrawn from the Cup, leaving nine runners, of whom Eligible was a slightly tetter favourite than Itewi Poto, .'with Indigo and Pursefiller backed , in that order. There was considerable delay at the barrier, caused by Pursefiller and Rupahu, and wben the tapes were let go Pursefiller was left standing. Rupahu immediately jumped to the front, and led Eligible and Rewi Poto 'down the back. At the half-mile the Gisborne horse had a good break on the pair named and Indigo,' across the bottom. Oliver, on the favourite,'set out to bridge the gap, and half-way down the - running he had ddne so, but was then troubled by Indigo. Inside the, ; distance the pair were hard at it, and in a great finish they passed the post locked together. The judge awarded the verdict fo Indigo.. Rupahu was two lengths off, and Rewi Poto was next. The favourite slipped at tho bottom of tho straight, or he may have reversed positions with tho winner, still it was a great performance to carry 91b. above weight for age, and had he beaten Indigo it would have said little for tho latter.. The riding of Wilson on the winner materially assisted towards the victory. He sat quiet on his .inount -till tlie Inst furlong, and saved his final, run till v;ell into the- straight., For the Trial Stakes, Circle Lady/was the only withdrawal. The English filly R-evalenta was a'-good favourite, with Lady Kilworth next in demand, and Atuatoro next. At the . start Marie Agnea, R-evalenta, and King's Best were most prominent ,and they led for three furlongs, wliere, Honey Bee displaced Marie Agnes. Honey Bee was first into the straight, but Revalenta soon had- hi«'i measure. ■ She - appeared to be winning, put Lady Multifid, who is well seasoned, beat her on the post. Korance, a placeeetter at Woodville, wa6 third, and Honey Bee isas fourth . Grey Painting was , withdrawn from the Welter, leaving seven runners* Multifual was favourite, with Shaki, Tavistock, a'nd.Nicomar backed in that order. The first-named pair led to the turn from Nicomar and Tavistock, but in the straight the top-weight came through, and at the finish he comfortably accounted for Multifual, who had to be ridden out to beat Nicomar. The Summit was fourth. The Karamu stable was successful in the Sapling Stakes, when the good-finish-ing Hyllus easily .beat the other two-ysar-oids. -Beltane was a good favourite, with Hyllus" second in demand. The favourite was quickest to begin, and led from Sunny Climes and Hyllus. At the straight entrance, the top-weight was pulling, ''and, going on, ho scored, decisively from Hexton, who got a run on the fence. Sunny Climes was third, after covering a lot of extra ground, and Tinkler was fourth. Spain, v;ho has been expected for a long time, came to hand in-the Hack Welter, in which she put up a good performance from behind the field. The JVanganui-owned mare was chopped out ,nist' after the start, and was sent back jo last. Con led down the-back from Hyatus, and Fore, with Goldenlyte, Whaka. hoki, and Spain in attendance. Whipping the field at the turn, Fore moved upon the fence, and vas followed by Spain. Fore compounded, but Con stuck to his work, and was only beaien by Spain in the last few strides. Whakahoki, who came round the field, was close up third, and then came Hylatus and Fore. ■ . The concluding event was a easy thing for the favourite, Hyginas, who led practically throughout.
