CARTERTON NEWS

A steady rain sot in in the district on Tuesday afternoon, and continued throughout the, following day. It was much needed, and the pastures arc already beginning to show signs of tho nourishment. Mr., John Strang, of Glonsulo, Gladstone, was on Wednesday elected unopposed to fill the vacancy for tho Maungarahi Hiding, in tho Wairarapa South County Council. Tho erecting of five workers' dwoll-y ings on land known as Parker's Estate, in Park Road, Carterton, is at present in progress. Tho many friends of Mrs. S. Uaynor, of Woodlands, Parkvalo, will regret to bear that she is at present seriously ill in a private hospital at Carterton.
