(4) That a grant of £50 be made from tho tramways account to the funds of tho Tramway Band, to go towards tho salary of the bandmaster, and that £1 per iveelc be paid in future for tho same purpose, until such time as the council may consider it necessary to review tho matter. , The committee reported that they were waited on by a deputation from the Tramway Power House Employees' Union, who mado .renewed request for an increase in wages. The committeo approved tlio resolution passed by tlio Financo Committeo at a special, moetf iug dealing with the question of wages, and presented to tlio council.. VARIOUS RECOMMENDATIONS. Recommendations of tho By-laws, Fire Brigade, and Street Lighting Committee wore agreed to as follow:— (1) That one lamp bo erected at Wilton Road, Northland, at an estimated cost of £2 1.05., as recommended by the electrical engineer. (3). That, tho Wellington Education Board bo informed that their renewed application for permission to erect a retaining wall at the Brooklyn School in wood in lieu of brick, as provided by tlio by-laws, cannot be _ (4) That tho renowed application for permission 'to subdivide a section of land at Apu Crcscont, Lyall Bay, so as to enable two bouses to be erected on tlio one section be not granted. (5) That permission ho granted for t!ia erection or five houses on a block of laud at Derwant Street, Island Bay, the two rear houses each having a frontago of 16ft. instead of 20ft., subjcct to tlio conditions as to distance from boundaries boing i tlio snnie as required in tlio original city. • (6) That au application for permission to -ercct. two .liousos in Hobson Street, where tho by-law only provides for tho erection of 0110, be nbt granted. (10) That Grant Road North ''be'■ renamed High StVeet ; in order to obviate the difficulty existing at present with regard to the duplicated houso numbers in Grant Road and Grant Road North.
