BOWLS
NEWTOWN WINS CHAMPION SINKS. • There were some 200 or 300 bowlers on (ho bank at tho Wellington. Club's green last evening to witness the final gams between the Newtown and Petone rinks in the champion rink competition. The game proved to be a runaway victory for Newtown, who went off trom scratch with a bang by scoring six on the first heacb and by keen, accurate ]\lay never loft tho issue in doubt for onD moment. Wylie's team were fairly on their gamu, and on its play loft no room for. complaint as. to its constitution. Prince led with fine skill and judgment, Spiers was always thereabouts, Sexton' played brilliantly as No, 3, and Wylio's goneralshlp and play were both of a high standard. The luck went with them all the way. l''or Petone, Henry was often guilty of throwing up short stuff. His first bowl was invariably short, but at times he got in good work with his second. Fowler played the best game oft the team, but even lie-was not as accurate as usual. Coles (No. 3) .was erratic, and owing to Newtown's steady capacity to draw the shot was kept driving a good deal with little profit, and Beyuon was -not on his game. He played some sterling shots at times, but was invariably unlucky. New-' town's score included two sixes and a ,llvo. The twentieth head was burnt, but as Newtown was so far ahead, the final head was not played. Tho result was:Newtown: Prince. Spiers. Sexton, Wylio (s.), 32; Petone: Henry,' Fowler, Coles, _Beynon (s.), 12. With Brackcnridge, the winner of the champion singled, this makes tho second Centre Championship won this season by* the Newtown Club.
