CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR NO. 3 BATTERY, N.Z. EXPEDITIONARY FORGE.

Sir, —The large number of people , m your > district who responded'to ray ap. peal for the above, which you were good «ndugh to publish last' September, will 1)9 glad to hear of the safe arrival of the gifts and lioiv much they were appreciated. I therefore hope that you ..will publish' the following extract from a letter I have just received from Lieut.Colonel Standish, O.C. the Battery. I may add that so liberal was the response from all parts of the Dominion that I was able to sent! cases containing 7cwt. of goods to the Battery. Lieut.Colonel Standish, writing from "Moas®ar Camp," Egypt, on January 18, says: "1 delayed l writing to you until the cases of gifts had arrived. They have now all turned up, after protracted wanderings, and been distributed. On behalf of the members of the 3rd Battery I wisli to thank you, and those other kind people who assisted you, very, very much for the very numerous and so suitable gifts you have sent us. They are indeed appreciated'by us. It is good to have things like this to show the boys they are not forgotten. We are now thoroughly appreciating this 'breather,' and are last '' ■recovering from any effects of Anzac. Thank you vel'y much for congratulations to me. It is the Battery which should be congratulated,. as without their splendid spirit and work I should, of course, not have ibeen so honoured'. I can never express all that I think of them, never. Thanking you again for all the trouble you have gone to.—l am, yours sincerely, I. T. Standish." I am, etc., * / EDITH BURNETT. [Woodvills, March 0.
