RAILWAYMEN'S PAY
—♦ — ■ MINISTER.NOW IN TOWN. " . The Minister of Railways' (the Hon. W. H. Hemes) returned to Wellington yesterday, and as it is -understood, that l|is absence from Wellington was the chief -reason why the demands of the Amalgamated Sooiety of- Railway Servants for inoreased pay were not considered by the Government, it is probable that.now the>..Government will give. the matter■ attention as. soon as possible. Cabinet sat:'almost continuously yesterday, and meets again at 11 o'olock to-day. Cabinet' does not publish its Order Paper, so that no ono knows what business it will .transact, but .at. least'it is probable that' the : railwaymen's demands will be considered soon. The questioiris not, however, onoto be lightly settled, and it is possible that the Government will not at once be prepared to make public their decision upon it.
