MAGISTRATE'S COURT

i In the Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning, before Mr. AY. G. lliddell, S.M., Gladys Melham, a young gilT of respectable appcaranco, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing £1, the Droperty of Janet Laird Parker. ShcTappeared vory contrite, and was formally convicted, and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. James Ramniar, a coloured person, pleaded guilty to the theft of £1. The Chief-Detcctivo stated that tho 1 accused had been employed as porter at tho Columbia Hotel. A boarder had handed him £1, which he failed to give to Ins employer, F. E. Goodey. Accused had Jive previous convictions. He was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment. For insobriety, Andrew Souttar and Richard Maylord were each fined 205., In deflult three days' imprisonment; Nellie _ Dondridge was fined 10s., or forty-eight hours' imprisonment; George Floyd, with seven convictions for drunkenness within tho past six months, was sentenced to one month in gaol, and a prohibition order was issued iigainst him; Bernard James Mulholland was .fined 10s, or *18 hours' imprisonment. x
