Carmen Sylva was born in Ncuwied, Germany, on December 29, 1843, and in 18G9 married Prince Charles, who later became King of Rumania, and died in .1914. She was eleetcd a member of 'he Academy of Scicnccs of Bucharest, but was best known for her literary publications, which included, "Thoughts of a Queen," 1890; "Edleen Vanghan," 1892; "Shadows on Life's' Dial," 1895; "A Real Queen's Fairy Book," 1901; "In Memory's Shrine," "Sweet Hours," and many poems, novelettes, fairy tales, and dramas. .' <
