According to latest Itftttte the Union Company's Moeraki is expected to reach hore from Sydney at 3 o'clock this afternoon. v WIMSIERA'S PASSENGERS, The Wimmera, which arrived in tho stream from Melbourne ord Hobart late on Friday night, was granted pratiiiuo early on Saturday morning, end berthed at No. 16 Jervois Quay. She brought the following passengers for Wellington:— Saloon—Mesdames M. Parouhar, W. 0. Downe, Humhprey, Taylor, Devenish, Laird, Meredith and 2 children, J. Whiting, Misses J. Farrow, Voultaire, Fallshaw, C. Foley. Row Devenish, Messrs. Hcbden, F. Stewart, Fallshaw, Taylor, F. Nightingale, W. Garnett; 18 steerage. She is- to leave for the Australian port, via southern ports, at 5 o'clock this evening. GOLDEN GATE ARRIVES. Shortly after 9 o'clook on Saturday night the liig-four-masted barque Golden Gate arrived in the stream from Auckland. The barque, which was towed into port by the Terawhiti, left the northern port oi\ Saturday last, thus occupying just a weeK on the run. She-brings a large cargo of case oil from America,- a big portion of which is for transhipment. Aftor lying in the stream all day yesterday the big barque will berth at the King's Wharf today. FROM PUGET SOUND. An interesting phase of yesterday's shipping was the arrival of the four-masted American schooner A. B. Johnson, from Puget Sound. Captain Ohristian Ander-en reports that the vessel left Aberdeen, GSay's Harbour, Puget Sound, on Decern- j ber 31 last, and met with a succession of | calms, the voyage being unevenftul and free from accidents or sickness. At 8.45 ' a.m. yesterday the schooner signalled for a pilot, and a couple of hours later Pilot' Spenco was placed .aboard from tha Karaka, about two miles outside the Heads. After picking up the pilot the schooner boat »-"U in until near 'the outer rocks, whence she was brought to an anchora-so in the strc.am by the tugs Koralia and A'ffmirnl. The oargo consists of 653,000 Jeet of timber. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. W. A. Laden with coal the Perth arrived in port on Saturday from Newcastle, via Nelson. She is expected to finish discharge at MLVaraaa' Wharf In time to denai-t on Wednesday. An expected arrival In Wellington tomorrow is the Uner Kumara from London, via Auckland. She left the northern port early on Saturday morning. The waterside workers will hold theii annual picnic on Wednesday, March 15. at Belmont Park. The union is stated to have donated £ICO to the picnic fund. The Government training . ship Amokura is to leave port to-day for tho Bluff, via ports, from whence she will depart on her annual trip to tho outlying islands In search of castaways. The Flora is due back at Timaru on Monday with a load of sheop from the Chathams. She will lea-vc oil Tuesday with a cargo of produco for Auckland. The Hincmoa is to leave to-day on II visit to tho southern lighthouse*. Southern papers report that the steamer John went aground in Port Chalmers early on Wednesday morning on the same sandbank as the Poherua recently grounded on. The receding tide left her almost High and dry, and it was not until nearly 12 hours later that she was able to free herself. The Wootton arrived in port from Lyt- | teltou on Saturday morning, and left later in the evening for' Kaikoura, whero sho will load sheep for Wellington. The Kaitan.gatn, which arrived in port from Westport yesterday, will, it is anticipated, return to tho West Coast port on Wednesday to load again for Wellington. Tho Rosamond, which arrived from Greymouth yesterday, will leave to-morrow for Westport to load for Napier. Tho Mowowai is expected to leave Lyttelton this evening for Wellington. Sho brings some 380 tons of cargo to diechare here, and will leave at two o'clock this afternoon for Napier and ports.
