PROFESSIONAL ORCHESTRA.
The'eighth animal meeting of the Wellington Professional Orchestra will bo held on March 12, when, owing to the resignation of Mr. Herbert Bloy, a new conductor will have to be appointed. The balance-sheet shows a slight, loss on last year's operations, but the assots give a- balance of £31 over the liabilities. The committee in its report states"The music performed during tho past year has been of a difficult class, and it must be gratifying' to the conductor to find his efforts rewarded by such a high standard of playing as was obtained. It is to' bo hoped that members realise that only conscientious and punctual attendance at rehearsals will keep the orchestra at such a standard, and the committee trusts that every ondeavonr "will be used to make the coming season as successful as tho last. During the season nine concerts were given. The number of pieces performed was 45, of which eight were I repeated. Credit is due to the orchestra ! for the introduction to Wellington audi-»| cnces of thirteen new ivovks not pre-: viously heard hero. An important ; feature of the season was the perform- j ance of Tsohaikowsky's Concerto for pianoforte ami orchestra, Mrs. Herbert Bloy being the soloist.- Thanks are extended: to Messrs. S. Horner, of Messrs. Clias. Begg and Co., and Mr. Walter Fuller for donations of music. The orchestra extends its sympathy to tho parents of a former popular member, the late Corporal F. A. Cimino, who was killed at Gallipoli. By the removal of the brothers Vitetta to Nelson, our society loses three valuable members. The city of Nelson is to be congratulated on the acquisition of such tithnited musicians."
