COLONIALS VILIFIED

« " RIFF-RAFF OF HUMANITY " By Telf'Sraph—Press Association—Copyright ("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.) London, March 3. The German journal "Vossische Zoitung" declares that the' indescribable joy over Erzerum is due to England's knowledge that her cause is the nearest .to shaky, "because her forces mainly consist of Australians and Canadians, the' very riff-raff of humanity, descendants of murderers and tl ieves, drunken hordes who despise the very thought of discipline and decency. This applies particularly to the Australians, the worthy descendants of criminals." The "Ze'itung" proceeds to vilify the Australians in the filthiest terms. It regrets that Germany's heroic' sons are doomed to fight such filthy human refuse. The Hamburg "Nachrichten,'.' taking the opposite view, praises the Australian as a fighting man. It says: "Australia will not consent to remain shut out from the German markets."
