Bishop Frodsham, in his book, "A Bishop's Pleasaunce," tells a good story against himself. "One early morning on the quay of a northern port a crowd was waiting for a tender. Tliero were well-dressed people, wharfside labourers, half-sober cane-cutters, and others, including myself. A pert little child in a high voice asked, 'Munimie, how ol dis God?' The mother rebuked her child, but a moro sympathetic cane-cutter walked solemnly across the quav, laid his hand on the child's arm, aim said; pointing to mc, 'Missie, yoii ask that bloke in leggings. He's ono of tho linn.' " Dr. J- S. ITaldane, brother of Lord Hnldaue, who was chosen by the Government to investigate the asphyxiating gases used by the Germans, was presented, at the annual meeting of the Institution of Mining Engineers in Leeds, with the institution's gold medal, ill recognition of his scientific attainments. The medal ha 3 been presented but once before.
