Soldiers' Comforts Depot. The following donations and comforts have been received at the Soldiers' Comforts Depot, 94 Wakefield Street, since December 15:—Lady Ward, £6; Miss Coates, £1 10s.; 0.L.R., £2; Mrs. John Hutcheson, £2. Soups, jellies, eggs, eto., from Mrs. Walter Nathan, Mi.ss Wheeler, Mrs. Joseph Joseph, Miss Pollen, Mr. Reeves. From Pahiatua: Miss M. Adams. Garden Party at Levin. The garden party _ held in Mrs. Bowen's grounds, Levin, on Wednesday last under the auspices of the Wereroa Ladies' Guild, was a great success. The day was beautifully fine, and the grounds were decorated with flags, while the buglers from the Training Farm were present, and added to the enjoyment of evoryono with their musical programme. Tho children, under tho direction of_ Mrs. Hansen, danced the maypole in an adjoining paddock, and were heartily applauded. Mrs. Hansen is to be congratulated on her success with the children, as she laboured under great difficulties, having been- without a piano for all the practices. Refreshments were served on the lawn and verandah by members of the Ladies' Guild, who had a busy time in dispensing afternoon tea. A treasure hunt caused a good deal of excitement amongst the children, and Miss May Conder became the successful finder of tho treasure, an enamelled butterfly brooch. Mrs. Lester won the doll, the age of' the hride being 27 years 7 months 7 days, Mrs. Lester being nearest wilfcli 28 years. The funds will be considerably augmented as a- result of the garden party. The Ladies' Guild desires to express its great appreciation for all assistance given in connection with the function, and to particularly acknowledge the kindness of those who, unable' to be present, kindly sent their contributions. Fsilding Notes. Mrs. Cavanagh has gone to Wellington. Mrs. Neville and Miss Cargill have returned"from Wellington. Mrs. Gorton and family are staying in Wansanui. Mrs. Twigg and Mrs. Sandilands are .in Wellington. Mrs. G. Elliott is at- Foxton. Mrs. Walker is staying in Wanganui. Miss Walker is staying at Day's Bay. Mies Millar is on 'a visit to tho South Island. i Mrs. M'Lean lias gone to Wellington, to see Major M'Lean, who is leav-. ing for the front. Dr. and Mrs. Guthrie are in Wellington. , Mrs. D. H. Guthrie has gone to Wellington. Miss Hammond has returned from Wellington. Mre. Perkins (Wellington) is staying with Mrs. Hitchinga. , Mrs. Richards lias returned from the beach. Mrs. Abraham has been staying with her mother, Mrs. Crosse (Napier). Mrs. Haggitt lias gone to Wellington.

Health of Women and Children. The monthly meeting of the Royal N.Z. Health Society was held in the society's rooms, 8 Courtenay Place, on Ilrarsday. Tliero were present: Mrs. Massey (in tho chair), the Countess of Glasgow, Mrs. Ponsonby, Mrs. C. Richardson, Mrs. M'Lean, Mrs. Luke, Mrs. Fitchett, Mrs. S. Kirkcnklie, Mrs. Harcourt, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. F. Leckie, .Mrs. M'Vicar, Mrs. J. Tripe, Mrs. G. Reid, Mrs. Eweu, Misses Barnett, Kirkcaldio, and Riley. Apologies were received from the president (Mrs. A. Williams), Mrs. Winder, and Miss Cable. The nurse's report -was very satisfactory, considering that Fobruary is a very trying month for infants. Tho total number of cases, attended to at the society's rooms was 428, a record month. Miss Barnett reported that a parcel of baby garments had been sent to the Salvation' Army Maternity Home, and parcels of garments and paper patterns were 6cnt to Miss Myers and Miss Lewis, of Nelson; The usual "sewing bee" will be held at 40 Hobson Street uoxt Tuesday, at 2.30 p.m. Subscriptions to material fund are as_ follow:—Mrs. Anderson, 55.; Miss Kirlccaldie, os.; Mrs. C. Four cases of hospital clothing and medical .comforts for the use of the troops were packed at Miss Coates's residence yesterday. Miss M'Lean (principal of the college) pre sided, ana there was a large gathering of members. The annual report was presented, also the balance-sheet; whicl showed a satisfactory state of tlu finances; A resume was also given oi the activities of the Literary Club. For the Soldiers' Hostel. Yesterday a street sale of produce of every description, organised by the Soldiers' Hostel Committee (the Langham Hostel), was held for the benefit of tlio 'Host-el Funds. A great deal of the success of such an effort of course depends upon the weathor. and in this respect the committee had no grounds lor comphvns, as it was all that could be wished for. Stalls effectively decorated and well supplied'with all kinds of saleable- goods were erected at the most' populated quarters of the City, find did very grud bisiness. The one in front of the Government Buildings was in the charge of Mrs. Wilford, with a number of assistants. At the Boulcott Street comer were Mrs. Kirby, Mrs. M'Lar'en, and helpers; Veitc'ii and Allan's corner,- Mrs. Fletcher and Mrs. Weston with assistants, and at Courtenay Place, Mrs. Radcliffe, Mrs. Stewart-, and .helpers. The sale of "Anzac buttons" brought in excellent results, as.did the sale < f buttonholes, as much as five shillings having been given for a single pansy. -The Misses Green (3) were the vendors of these. Collection boxes were also in evidence, and did their share, in' adding to the day's returns. Miss Beatrice Day, who was to have assisted in the collecting, was unable to do s'o through sickness, and tho Empire Tab'eaux also did not eventuate, as some of the figures were unable to take their part t'hrough the same reason, sickness. The Patriotic Band paraded tlie streets in the Evening, with Gunner Lo Berre, of . the 12th Artillery, singing the "Marseillaise." During tlie day the Pantomime Company, through tho kind permission of Mr.'.fe. Stephenson. took up a collection in the streets. As a result of the day's work, the sum of £308 I2s. was taken. At, the-instigation'of the Mayor and Mayoress of Woodville, a stall was organised for the benefit of the Hostel Funds at the Horticultural Show in Woodville, and in Blenheim the Red Cross Society was also holding a day fori the same purpose. The committee was. very grateful to Mrs. Green,- of the Caledonian Hotel, who placed her car at the disposal of tho committee, during itlie whole of the day, and also to Mr. M'Laren ;for his valuable assistance. The ladies of the Base Hospital Camp, Wellington, have 'sent to Trent'harii Hospital a gramaphone, suitably inscribed, and records, also two croquet sets. The: delegates to the Countess of Liverpool Conference, when visiting the Featherston Camp Hospital, decidcd to send as a memento of' their' visit a dozen gramaphone records for tho benefit ,of the patients. To the Greytown Hospital they .are sending records and a gramaphone. Mrs. White,, of Karon, 'is giving, a Red Cross" tea : at her residence this afternoon, and- all intending "guests should pass a very enjoyable afternoon.' js it affords a pleasant outing for town iwellers. ; Different sports: bodies have clone much-to assist Red Cross, work, and a recent addition to 'the funds which the Mayoress has received was the" sum of £4 from the Ngaroma Croquet Club, Petone. Miss Cowles, a missionary from India, ai present doing deputation work in iVew Zealand, will speak .at tlie IVW.C.A. rooms next Sunday afternoon to tho girls -on missionary work in India. Miss Cowles went out there as a- nurse, and has also been engaged ill school work in Further India. Miss Helen F. Barnes, M.A., general secretary of the National I'.W.C.A. for Australasia, arrived in Wellington this morning by the Wimmera from Tasmania. Miss Barnes is accompanied by. Miss Mary Geddis, of Auckland, who is the national secretary for tho Girls' Department of the T.W.C.A. in Australasia. Miss Barnes and Miss Gedlis leave for Christchurch this evening.
