DREADFUL CROSSING ACCIDENT

4 MOTOR-CAR COLLIDES WITH TRAIN TWO MEN KILLED By Telegraph—Prees Association. Nelson, Maroh 3. A shocking l accident occurred at the Innesbrook railway crossing, a short distance from the city, this afternoon, when a motor-car travelling to Motueka collided with an incoming train. The car was driven by Mr. i l '. R. Hallam. orchardist, of Tasman, who was accompanied by Mr. H. D. Pine, who, until recently, was head of the, jobbing department of the Christchurch "Press," Mr. A. H. Green, advertising manager of the Christchurch "Press," aud Mr. Percy B. Lomax, land agent, of Motuela. The car, which was travelling at a fair speed, struck one of the wagons near the engine of the train with tremendous force, the car being,wrecked, and tho occupants thrown in all directions, the driver, Mr. Hallam, being hurled" between tho couplings of wagons and landing on the far side of the train. Ho miraculously escaped with a shaking and abrasions. The other occupants of the .car _ ati seemed to be seriously injured. Medical aid promptly arrived from tho town, and Messrs. Pine, Groen, and Lomaj were removed to the Hospital. Mr. Pine succumbed about an houi after his admission, and Mr. Green diec this evening. The latter had sustained terrible injuries to the chest and abdomen, and Air. Pine's injuries were also internal. Mr. Lomax had his left leg almosi severed below the knee, and also sustained severe wounds about the heac and body. He was operated on to-night and lies in a serious condition. Mr. Hallam states that he put or the brake when Tie saw the train, bui was unable to avert the collision. Thi driver and tho fireman,of the enginf saw' tho car approaching, and whistlet vigorously, but 'the warning was nol heard by the occupants of the car. Tin Innesbrook crowing lias been the sceni of several serious accidents. • ' The remains of Messrs. Pine anc Green will be sent to Christchurch bj to-morrow's steamer!
