In responso to inquiries from this Dominion, Colonel Barclay, writing to representatives of tlio St. John Ambulance Brigade in New Zealand, givcß some valuable information with respect to the most suitable articles which can bo sent to Egypt for hospital work. He 6ays: "I visited the New Zealand General Hospital ,at Pont de Kouhbeli (Cairo), and had a conversation with jl'iijor Maguiro (the adjutant) and tlio matron, and 'they informed' me that tlio articles of which they are most in need are day shirts, socks, and pyjamas. Flannel vests may also' be sent, and there is room for a further supply of triangular bandages, but the stock of roller bandages on hand is sufficient to meet requirements for seme time to come. If nightshirts are sent, white material should be avoided. In the event of there being a desire to supply any articles of invalid foods, the following aro suggested as the most suitable, viz., glaxo, bovo, cocoa, also biscuits and sweets. In the past some amount of inconvenience has been caused owing to failure to send an invoice with the packages. This necessitates unpacking in order to ascertain the contents. It is particularly desired that tlyise for. warding consignments of gooi;s ■ should send an inventory by post, and at the same time enclose a duplicate in the case or other package on top of tlio goods. The practice of tacking a list of the contents on the top of the case is not a good one, and should bo discontinued, Colonel Parlces, the Commandant of tlio New Zealand Hospital, and the stafi speak .in high terms of the generosity of the members of the St. John and other organisations, and it was specialty desired that .when writing to Now 2ea< land I should montion how highly tlid gifts were nppreciated not only by tho staff, hut by. the patients, whose lot it is to mako use of tho articles contributed."
Mrs. Mackay, Mayoress of_ Wanganui, motored through to Wellington on Sunday, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. She will attend the conference which has been called by Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool to consider matters in connection with the work for tho soldiers.
