THE RECRUITING SCHEME
GRATIFYING REPLIES RECEIVED. "Very gratifying communications have been received bv the secretary of the Recruiting Board from local bodies, members of the Legislature, and others with regard to the recruiting scheuio," said the Prime Minister yesterday. "They are all of a mind to give the scheme a thorough trial. It will yet be somo weeks before the new organisation can bo in full operation. It will not be operative for tlie 14th Reinforcements. The secretary reports to mo that ho lias received some 150 favourable replies."
The first meeting of a series to be held in aid of recruiting will be held at tho Lower H.utt in the Town Hall on Thursday night, tho Mayor, Mr. H. Baldwin, will preside. The meeting will be addressed by four spoakere, including Mr. Wright, M.P., Mr. D. Weir, Mr. E. Hadtielu, and another. As quickly as halls can be secured, other meetings will be held in every comer, of tho district. LOCAL ENLISTMENTS. The following additional recruits have been registered at the Buckle Street Drill Hall:— William Norman Walter Bain, electrician (Engineers).
