TE ARO HOUSE PICNIC

In delightful summer weather the annual picnic of tho employees of tho Te Aro House Drapery Company, Ltd., took place on Saturday. The rendezvous chosen for the occasion was Mason's Gardens, now looking at their best. Tho various sports competitions included in the day's entertainment terminated as follow: —

Nail Driving.—Miss _ Daisy _ Card deftly hammered her nail homo in five I resolute hits, Mr. J. Lawrence requiring two more. Miss Gillien's matchstriking skill enabled her and Mr. W. Lambert to win the cigarette race. 100 Yards T.R.O. House Handicap.— This, the principal race of the day, excited much interest. First heat.: Exton, Winter, R-outh. Second heat: Lambert, Williamson, Bernasconi. In tho closelycontested final, Lambert just won by inches from Williamson, tho scratch mail making a fine cflprt to get through on the tape. Time, 11 SJ-osec. Ladies' 75 Yards Dash. —After a brief but spirited contest, Miss Esmo Fordyce ran out a winner by four yards. | Long Jump.—J. Williamson, with an excellent effort, covered 16ft. Sin. Throwing the Cricket Ball. —Men: Mr. Will Lambert. Ladies: Miss Rene Esau, of Wanganui, out-distanced her competitors -with a fine throw of 100 ft. lJin. The proceedings "were happily terminated by the presentation of the prizes to the sucbessful competitors by Miss Loftus. Mr. T. Forsyth, the general manager of Te Aro House, undertook tho responsibility of all the arrangements with his customary ability.
