DAMAGES AGAINST A SHIPPING COMPANY A claim against a- shipping company, in respect ol' damaged cargo, was concluded in the Supreme Court yesterday before Ilis Honour Air. Justice Chapman and a common jury of four. The parties were tho Wellington Publishing Ltd., uf Dominion Avenue, Wellington, plaintiffs, and the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, Ltd., shipowners, ~of Napier, defendants. Mr, M. Myers appeared i'or the plaintiff company, wnilo Mr. T. Young appeared for tlie defendant company. The jury returned a verdict i'or tlio plaintiff company for the full amount claimed (.£ISU). Judgment was entered accordingly, with costs to bo fixed by the Registrar. Particulars of .the claim and Uie. defence were published yesterday. , A COLLISION. Francis Joseph Richard Heath claimed <£1178 damages from Charles Prendergast Knight for injuries received in a motor-car accident. Mr. M. Alycrs appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. C. P. Skerrctt, K.C., with him Mr. P. H. Putnam, for the defendant. The case, which was heard before a jury of twelve, arose out of a collision on October 0, 1915, at tlio intersection of Courlcnay- Place and Taraimki Street, between a motor-cycle _ ridden by plaintill; and a motor-car driven by defendant. Plaintiff had his right leg broken in two places. The question ut issue was 'as to whether the accident was brought about by the negligence of the defendant or of the plaintiff. Defendant also urged that at tho timo of the accident he was on tlio business of the Defence Department.' , 1 Lengthy evidence is being called, and the case had not concluded at 5.30 p.m. yesterday, when the Court adourned until 10 o'clock this morning.
