SHIPPING SPACE
-fr. MEWS OF GISBOHNE PRODUCERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisbornc, February 25. In view of the organised movement 1 now established .at Auckland to influence the allotments of shipping space, a meeting of sheepfarniers an<l commercial representatives was held this afternoon to consider what steps should be' taken to preserve and protect producers' interests in this district. The following resolution was passed:—"This meeting is of opinion that the shipping facilities projected so far as chsdoscd at present are wholly inadequate to provide for perishable exports from this district. It is fully recognised that the requirements of the Imperial Government for war purposes , are paramount, and the east coast farmers'are quite prepared to submit to any fair proportion of sacrifice that they may be called upon to sustain; at tho same time it is desired to express in the strongest way possible the impropriety of the, attempts now being made in some other centres through deputations to Ministers of the Grown, and through the public Press, to unduly influence the Overseas Shipping Committee in their extremely difficult task of allotting space in insulated ships. It is recognised that' the only equal allotment is pro rata to the prediction in the respective districts." It "was decided to set up a committee to see
that the claims of the district are fairly' placet! before the Shipping Committee.
