NEW ZEALAND ARMY DIVISION
ARMY COUNCIL'S APPRECIATION. By Telegraph—l'rcss Association. Dunedin, February 25. The Minister of Defence announces that the Secretary of State for the Colonies advises that the Army Council highly appreciates the action of the New Zealand Government in creating a New Zealand Army Division with the necessary reinforcements. The Minister points out that the creation of the division will not involvo a general increase, Although an increase will be necessary for tho infantry, there will be a decrease in other units, making the result regarding requirements practically similar to the present needs. It is understood that no official intimation has been received, as to any New Zealand force having landed in Salonika ■

A favourite one of liis concerns a wounded soldier in the South African War. After dressing the man's wound, a surgeon gave him a much-battered sixpence which had been driven by the bullet through the soldier's pocket into the wound, from whence it had been extracted by the doctor.- '.'Hi!"-exclaimed tho wounded Tommy indignantly. "I know all your R.AIM.C. tricks. Give me the ■ other nine and a tanner. 1 lust half a quid."
