SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION THE: CHAMPIONSHIPS By Telegraph.—(Special Correspondent.) Taihape,. February 24. The Bangitikei district is well'catered for in the matter of agricultural shows. ' Two weeks ago Mart-on held its annual exhibition, and to-day the Rangitikei A. and P. Association's Fifth Show was held at Taihape, and a successful function it proved to be. The weather, which is such an important contributing factor t-o the success <5r otherwise of - these outside carnivals, was delightful, und in consequence there wasT.'a' very large gathering from all parts of.'llangitikei. . The show was quite up Jto. ttte standard of other years, despite war conditions, and in some respects" there ivas au improvement. '.LTie condition of the stock exhibited fully demonstrated the capabilities of Bangitikei for producing aiiimals of good constitution and substancer and' rellected the splendid 'season-experienced for feed. There was ill consequence a good deal of oiithusinsir. . among'critics, who spent- a good portion of the • day in inspecting the stock. - The Entries. The entries totalled 799, ■ made up as follows: —Horses And competitions 324, cattle '43, pigs 7, shoep IoS, and home industries 270. Last year the entries totalled 850, but many of - the young men 'of the district, who in the 'past Lave loyally supported the show, are now serving the Empire at the front, and' consequently the members of the association have every reason. to be pleased that the entries are so good. Last year there were .296 entries in horse classes, and this year there, are ?24, a good increase; cattle entries show an increase of 3, but the pig classes show a falling off, as is also fhe case ill the sheep classes! in. which there were 193 entries la6t year, while there ' are 155 in to-day's show. One' of the particular features of the show was the excellent competition in jumping events, end the public had the opportunity of seeing the best jumping evor yet' seen •in the district. . 1 ' .The Horse Classes. In the horse division there were some good entries among draughts, Tom, Mann, of Taihapo, being the most successful exhibitor. Stallions were 'only represented by two entries, one in the carriage; stallion class, and one in the stallion-class most suitable for getting . remounts, the exhibitor in each instance . being M: Collinsori (Marton). There were good entries in the harness horse division, Mr. J: B. Gaisford's (Bulls) "Colonel'', being awarded the chainpion ribbon for single harness horses. The competition among saddle horses was keen, the hack classes being especially strong.' H. . Hassall's (Hastings) ''Micky Free" won in'the weight-carry-ing hack section, lost., ana ov.er, also ■ tho hack' r.hampioiislnp. Mrs. T. V. . Morrin's. (Mangaohane) "The Peer" -/ secured .first honours in weight-carrying hack up to 13st.> whilst J. , Bnce'u (Marton) "Hailstorm" was awarded first for light-weight hack up to list., • and first in lady's hack class. Mrs. Morrin and Miss Nixon tied for first place for best lady rider] There was ' on the catalogue a class for district ladies': 3 hacks.,(3o.'miles'radius, of :TaU hape)_, J and this' was'wonJby' Mrs: T.* W Morrin's (Mangaokaiiu) "Tho Peer." . Ponies made a big showing, Mrs. 15. C. ■ Gaisford's (Bulls). ."Teddy,.Bear" being awarded the championship. ; Tho Cattle Section. '.
