Those who have been attracted by tlio very fine set of band instruments displayed lately in the show windows of Messrs. Begg and Company's establishment will probably be interested to know that they are now tho property of the permanent Camp Band at Trenttiam. "Until recently each reinforcement draft us, it departed from Trenthnni took it* baud with it, but the opinion grew that it would lie-wise to baud which would remain as part of tiio permanent camp 6taff. Ultimately it was decided to 'carry the idea into effect, and n permanent band began to assemble. Generous subscriptions to the instrument fund were forthcoming until the- band had sufficient money to .purchase a set of the highest quality. Yesterday afternoon tho bandsmen, under _ Sergeant-Major Fi-x (the conductor), visited Messrs. Begg and Company's warehouse, where the instruments which had been- such an attraction in the windows were exhaustively tested. A. decision to purchase followed. At 5.30 o'clock the bandsmen took possession of the instruments. They lirst played a selection outside the warehouse, artd tnun marched, playing along Manner* and Willis Streets and Lambton quay to the railway station, where they took train for the camp. The equipment now secured by the band is said to be second tn none in the Dominion. It consists of a full set of twenty-six instruments made by Besson and Co.
