He would not commit himself to a statement on tho matter be--s'ond the comment that an all-round increase of n shilling a day would mean an additional expenditure of £200,000, which, of course, would have to be met somehow —whether by additional taxation or not would have to bo decid'ed when the question of the demands hod been settled. The danger was, he added, that if the demands were conceded thcro would be similar action in regard to tho remainder of the Public 'Service.
