MEETING OF SEW ZEALAND .. '' COUNCIL. A meeting of the Central Council of tho Ordor of St. John, and the New Zealand Branch of the British lied Cross Society, was held at "Elmwood," Christchurch, at 10' a.m. on February 23, under the chairmanship of His Excellency tho Governor, at which tho following members were present: —Mr. C. P. I'oivles, Mrs. J. P. Luke, and Mr. W. Allan,--. Wellington Military District; Mr. J. A. Flesner, Christchurch; Mr. B. Tripp, Tiniaru; Mr. J. P. Hays, Nelson; Mr. J. E. Bone, Dunedin; Mr. Glendining, Otago; Miss M'Lcan, Southland. Tho following resolutions were carried unanimously:— 1. Proposed by His Excellency tho Governor, seconded by Mr. Tripp: "That Lieut.-Colonel AV. H. S. Moorhouse act as Officer in Charge of tho. Central Department in Wellington." 2. Proposed by Mr. Flesher, seconded by; Mrs. Luke: "That, in response to an' appeal from His Excellency the Viceroy of India, bandages, surgical dressing, body belts, essence of beef, ossence of mutton and condensed milk, be forwarded for use'of troops in Mesopotamia." 3. Proposed by Mr. Bone, seconded by Mr. Powles: "That the officer in charge of the Central Office be authorised, on the authority of the Governor, to settle matters of extreme urgency b.y calling a meeting of the Central Council, three being a nuorum (one.from each centre), under the chairHis Excellency or a deputychairman appointed b.y him."
4. Proposed by Mr. Allan, seconded b.y Miss M'Lean: "That expenditure t) the amount of, say, £300 per annum be authorised for Executive expenses, to be apportioned equally among the military ' districts represented on the council." >
