NEW ZEALAND EFFORT ACKNOWLEDGED. . His Excellency the Governor has received from Mr. Robert A. Hudson, chairman of the Finance Committee of the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John of 'Jerusalem in Eng-land-a letter acknowledging the contribution made by .New , Zealand to the British Red Cross Funds in response to. Lord,"Lausdowne's appeal some months ago. The amounftransmjtted was £17,756 Ss. 10d. Following is the tets of the letter:— • ■•"I am desired by Lord Lansdowne to express to you the,. grateful thanks ■of the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John for the most generous contribution of New Zealand to our fund for relieving the sick and wounded. "The money has now been duly placed to-our credit at the Bank of England,' and, apart from the 'message which you have received through the Colonial Office, I am desired by Lord Lansdowne to ask that you will add to your kindness by taking any step which is possible to convey an expression of our gratitude to all concerned in contributin gthis-'munificent-sum. We would like to add our thanks to those who have, by organisation and much hard work, -helped to bring our appeal so effectively to the notice of the people of New Zealand.
