A full military funeral was accorded yesterday to Private Frederick Ernest Moore, of F Company, 13th Reinforcements, whose deatli occurred at Trenfcliam 011 Monday. The Defence Department was represented by Major Holderiicss, of the 13th Reinforcements, and Colonel-Chaplain Tracy conducted the service at r.lio graveside at Karori. The Trentham . Band attended, and deceased's comrades provided a firing party. The late Private Moore was 37 rears of age, and had resided in the Kelson district all his life.

Tlio ilon. I'\ Bryant, a member of the N T ew South Wales Legislative Council, accompanied by his secretary, Mr. A. J. Kent, who is accountant of the Government Printing Works in Sydney, arrived in Auckland on Monday. Mrs. Bryant mid Mrs. Kent aro with them.

Captain F. Macky, of the Australian Medical Corps, who has been invalided lic.mo from Egypt after several months' work in the military hospitals there, arrived' in Auckland from Sydney by the Niagara this week. Captain ifacky is a son of the late Mr. J. C. Macky, of Auckland, and he will remain in Now Zealand about a fortnight before leaving again for the Commonwealth.

Mr. W. H. Morton, City Engineer, who has been on a visit to Sydney, returned to Wellington, via Auckland, yesterday afternoon.

Mr. James Jeffs, who died in Dunedin on Saturday evening, was well known throughout Otago. His psftents came from England to Canterbury _in the Charlotte Jane, one of the historic "first four ships," and he was horn at Kaiapoi 63 years ago. For many years he was olosely connected with racing. He acted' as clerk of the cohrse to the Dunedin Jockey Club, was also a steward of the Forbury Park Trotting Club for a long time, and he had experience as an owner. The sprinter Pctrovna, the steeplechaser Pipi, and the trotters Motorist and Wilkie, were his property, and competed in hiß colours. ' , Private advice has been received that Sergt.-Major R. J. L. Word has been received that Lieut, (now oaptain) R. \X. Mnllins, of the 10th York and Lancaster Regiment, has been promoted for good work on' the field in Flanders. He volunteered in Kitchener's second army, and gained liis before he left England. Ho took part in tic advance in September, being in charge of the machine-gun. section of his battalion. Captain MuU tins was born in Tinviru, and is' a grandson of the late Mr. Richard fumbull.

A Timaru paper states-that Mr. John Anstey, M.P. for Waitaki is at present in a private - hospital, whero he is'to undergo an operation.

Lieut. A. 11. \Y. Evenden, of the N.Z.F.A., 10th Reinforcements, wlio loft Ohristchurch 011 Monday night for Trontliam, after final leave, was presented with a sleeping bag ,by Major J. P. Neale, on- behalf of the officers of the Canterbury Coast Defence Troops. Mr. P. Bean, stationmaster, on behalf of the railway staff, presented Lieut. Evenden with some handsome articles of silver plate.

• The secretary of ' the Agricultural Board (Mr. W. R. King) has enlisted, and goes into camp as an n.c.o. in a few days. It was decided at a recent meeting of board that a record b« placed on the minutes' expressing 'the satisfaction of the members with the manner in which he had performed tho duties of secretary to the board, and Eloping that it would not be long befora he'(Mr. W. R. King) would be able to return.

The funeral of the late Mr. N. Neilsen, of Rona Bay, Wellington, and for many years farming Dalefield, took place on Monday afternoon at the Clareviile Cemetery, and was largely attended. The Rev. R. Young, vicar of St. Mark's, Church, officiated at the graveside.

Master Roy Workman, ■ son of Mr. H.. Workman, of Martinborough, died in tlie Masjterton Hospital on Monday, after an illness extending over a- week. The lad was only fourteen years of age.

Dr. A. W. Houghton, whose death was reported in a cablegram published yesterday, was the only son of Mr. C. V. Houghton, manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company in Auckland. Dr. Houghton, who was 29 years old, went to London about, five or six yeara ngo to complete his medical studies, and there took his M.R.C.S. degree, after having gained some practical experience in hospital work. About two years ago Dr. Houghton returned to Auckland, and commenced practice there. A fow months after, the outbreak of the war he again went Home, and offered his services to the military - authorities. He was accepted, _ and drafted into the Lancashire Regiment,with which ho was serving his country in France when he was wounded by shrapnel. Mr. Houghton learned that Iris son was in a hospital at Boulogne, and 1 his last news was that he had been invalided Home. ,
