INFANTILE PARALYSIS
SIX CASKS IN WELLINGTON DIS- , TRICST. Six cases of infantile paralysis wero reported in the Wellington Public Health District yesterday, four in Gisborne, one in New Plymouth, and one in Picton. Instructions have been given to the Public Health Authorities in Gisborne to have all street cars and houses of public amusement thoroughly disinfected. PRECAUTIONS IN THE CITY. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) stated last evening that the City Council has made 6pecial provision to secure the City's immunity from any inroads of an edidemic of infantile paralysis. The Chief Inspector (Mr. James Doyle) has been instructed to take any action that he considers necessary to safeguard the public health. Additional expenditure that may he required to maintain the host conditions for' the health of the community has been authorised. Special instructions have been given to Mr. Doyle to make a searching. examination of the stables of the City and to take any immediate action that may be necessary to prevent these from becoming dangerous spots. Six further cases of infantile paralysis were reported to-day, four in the city and two in the country, bringing the total cases notified to date to 252. A child at To Puke has died of the disease, bringing the total deaths to nine in the city, and nine in the country.
