Concerts at Trentham. Another meeting to expedite matters in connection witli the question of pro-' viding conveyances for concert parties to Trentham Camp was held in the Y.M.C.A. Buildings yesterday afterMoon. At the last meeting it had been decided that an emergency fund should bo started, and .Mr. U. Al'lntyre had been deputed by the committee to approach the ''Charley's Aunt" Company and ask for its co-operation in the matter by devoting a portion of the proceeds resulting from their approaching three days' season to that emergency fund. The matter was now under consideration, and the committeo expected to hear the result within tlio next day or two. The camp authorities had al«o been approached, and had announced themselves as being agreeably to organised concert parties going out to Trentham. As the three societies, the Victoria League the N.Z. Natives' Association, and tife Young Men's Christian Association, are co-ordinating for tho purpose of organising concert parties to Trentham, it was decidcd that each body should draw up a list of all the people who were willing to lend cars for these occasions, and so lessen tbo Mimber of times upon which they would bo asked to lend them, by adding to the general number of cars which could bo lent to tho committee. A concert is to be given early in April for the purpose of organising a fund upon which to draw in case of emergency. New Materials. The silk looms of France are once more getting into regular working order. and a fabric likely to be much used in tiie coming season, is the thick, glossy 6atin, which is being woven, profusely, both in France and England (states a London correspondent). Velours also is going to bo very popular, and it is said that a great deal of silk plush is being prepared for the spring. Cer.tainly the light silk plush mulfs, with hats, collarottes, and handbags to match, are already appearing. - Italy lias placed immense orders for footwear with us, and tho long boots that ovoryono is wearing, take up an immense amount of leathor, but curiously enough, prices do not seem to bo going up. A mixture of black and wliito is the fancy of tho moment.' and black hoots of the old st ,'le aro being brought lip to dato with white laces, and white tassels.
Miss Ethel M. Duff, M.A., of Petone, has boon appointed to a position on the stnfF of tiio Columba Presbyterian Girls' Collego at Dunedin.
