NATIONAL SERVICE LEAGUE

ITS OBJECTS. The National Service League has issued circulars _ inviting membership. Those who can join are: "(1) Returned soldiers; any man that lias enlisted or failed; and old soldierß. (2) AVives, mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters of the aboye." The league's object is to help every man who answers the Empire's call. Members must take this pledge: "I promise to help to obtain work, in their work, business or professionto do kind actions, say kind words, to entertain, and do all I possibly can to help in business and social life every man who answers the Empire's call. I also promise to give preference to the manufactured goods of New Zealand and the British Empire. And follow out to the best of my ability the rules of the N.S.L. This promise is to hold good for four years.

Members are not to pay for any liquor to a returned soldier at a public bar. If a returned soldier is in need of money a member is to take hiin_ to the patriotic society of the district. Members are to invite returned soldiers to social gatherings, picnics, sports, boating, shooting, or any healthy outing, more especially to invite them to their own homes, giving them a place of honour at all times. Members are to patronise businesses of disabled soldiers. These will he known by a 6pecial card displayed iu their window. A special badge worded "Fighting Men First" will be issued to all members who have signed the ahove pledge. Threepence of every member's subscription is to be given to an orphanage for the benefit of fallen soldiers' children.
