CONCERT PARTIES TO TRENTHAM
QUESTION OF ORGANISATION. ■ Yesterday afternoon another meeting to deal with tho question of tho organisation of concert parties to Trent Sam Camp and tlcir method of transport thither was held in tho Y.M.C.A. Rooms. Representatives from some of the organisations that have regularly interested themselves in the matter of providing entertainments for tho men in camp were chiefly those who were present'. Mr. Variioy presided during tho earlier part of tlio meeting, but owing to his being called elsewhere his place was taken by Mr. C. M'lntyre later.
[ .For the benefit of thoso who had not been present- at the precious meeting a resume of the points dealt with then was given by Mr. Varney and Mr. M'lntyre, who afterwards stated that he had interviewed the Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. H. Herries, as tD the possibilities offered by train services. As, however, the concert parties did not include a large number of artists, often .not many more than the Minister sympathetically pointed out that a special train servico to Trentham and back could not eery well be organised for their special benefit. Since that was the case, Mr. M'lntyre pointed out that there was nothing left but a motor-car service. Tile proposal was then brought forward that a committee be formed combining in its personnel representatives of the different organisations that have interested themselves in tho entertainment of the men in camp at Trentham, and in its bands would be placed tho arrangement of tlie arrangement of motor transport, the securing of halls, and other minor details. This co-ordination of bodies or their representatives would secure several advantages, an important ono being the question of _ transport, as the Victoria League Girls, the New Zealand Natives' Association, _ the Y.M.C.A., etc., have a certain nnmber of motor-cars that can be relied upon, and by this combination of forces the call made upon these would not be nearly so frequently made. Outside bodies who wished to give concerts at Trentham, and who wished to avail themselves of the facilities that the committee would be in a position to bestow, would be j asked to submit their. programme to j the latter. Greater security of being ! able to obtain halls would be gained by making arrangements through tho committee also.
The following oommitteo was accordingly appointed: Co-chairmen, Mr. Yarney and Mr. C. M'lntyro; hon. secretary, Mrs. Coleridge; committee, Brigadier Hoare, Mis. Chatfield, Mrs. Jones, Mr. Gaudio, Mr. R. Darroch.
It was moved by Brigadier Hoare that this_ bo merely an interim committee with power to add to its numbers, and this was accordingly' dono, as it was desired to make tho committee as representative as possible. The committee is also desirous of raising a fund from which, should unforeseen circumstances, arise, it will be ablo to provide for transport to Trentham out of its own means, and for this purpose it is proposed to ask outside aid in tho matter.
