FINED & PROHIBITED _Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided in the Magistrate'!! Conrt yesterday. John Laid [aw Availing pleaded guilty to a charge of h.is having used indecent langyaye in Lambton Quay. Inspector Hendrey said'that Walling went into the Gresham Hotel, and, becauso of his condition, he was requested by the licenseo to leave. This seemed to annoy the accused, who then used the language complained of in a <k»rway close to the Quays at a time when people must have been passing along the street. Mr. K K. Kirkcaldie, who appeared as counsci for the accused, said that Walling used the language when in a state of drunkenness. Walling was willing to be prohibited. _ Inspector Hendrey remarked that Walling had teen before the ;Court on two previous occasions for offences of this kind. Hiss Worship: I shall make an order that a prohibition order shall be issued against you, Walling, and I hope it will have a good effect, for when you get drunk it seems to be your chief form of anmsement to go alxmt using most filthy, disgusting language. The language charged against you last time you were here was of a most disgusting character. You will be fined .£3, with costs 95.; in default one month's imprisonment, and a prohibition order will be made against you.

Jackson stated that the defendant was the child's grandmother, and was very attached to him. The child had been sent by tho authorities from the school to his grandmother, and there lie was well cared for. Suddenly, the return of the child was demanded, and no reason was given. Inspector Hendrey said that if Mrs. Black consented to hand the child back in the meantime ho -would withdraw Hie charge, and further investigation of the case could be made. The defendant refused to hand back the child on the, wound that she would never get hi magain if she allowed him to so now. 4 His Worship remarked that the Minister of Education .had signed an order for the return of the child, and that the Court could not go behind that. He fined j\trs. Black .£5, and allowed her seven days' in which to pay t.hc fine So that there will he time for her to communicate with the Minister* BREAKING THE BY-LAWS. Ngan Ohanir and Co., of Moxham '.Avenue, Kilbirnie, were fined .£2, with costs 7s„ for having allowed their premises to become a nuisance by reason of an Accumulation of dccayed 'fruit and vegetables. John B. Harconrt was fined £1, with costs 75., for having used "ordinaiy" simply water on his garden. Ciias. Jolly was fined lfls., with costs 195., for bavin" unlawfully lit a fire on a section at Northland. It was statpil that there was danger of the firo spreadin? considerably. Horace Collins was fined 55., with' 7s. costs _ for having commenced to i-reet a building at 13astboume without a permit. For having ridden a bicycle' at night without a light Robert Organ was fined 10s.. with costs 7s.

Chas Daniel Hargreavee was fined life., with costs 75., on a charge of his having left a horse and vehicle ■unattended in Tory Street.

Lawrence M'Gre«ror and Gus .Tahn were each, fined 55., with costs 75., for having ridden bicycles which were not clearly showing a registered nnrnber. Archie ChristenMn was convicted and disoharged on a charge of having driven a motor-car without having obtained»a certificate of competency. OTHER CASES. Benjamin Hauldey and Geo. Smith were each fined il, with 7s. costs, for having worked a horse which had a sore shoulder. Richard Dnnn, alias Denton, was fined 10s. for insobriety. For brooking prohibition orders John Joseph Tobin and Allan M'Phee wore each fined £1.
