WANGANUI SCRATCHING!?. (By Telttfraph.—Prew Association.) Wanganui, February 18. Postillion and Locliaber have been scratched for all engagements at Wanganui. SALE OF THOROUGHBREDS. Dunedin, February 18. The Finland gelding Reval was purchased at auction by Mr. C. Studholmo for 800 guineas. The Warrington yearlings averaged from 22 to 80 guineas. NOTES AND COMMENTS IBTC <3lencoe.l The Manawatu Trotting Club's Meeting will bo held on the Awapuni 11 acecourse to-day. A good crowd of southern horses passed through here yesterday on their way to compete at tlie gathering. Amongst the number were A. Pringle. with Whisht, St. Louis, and Watchman; A. Fleming, -with Alico S'naYr and Queen Patch; J. Conway, with Van 1 Coronadd and Albert Wallace; 11. Edwards, with General Victor; and K. H. Smith, with Harold Devon. ■ The last-named horse may start favourite in the Cup. He is to be driven by M. Edwards.
By the Mara, roa, which arrives from the south'this morning, G. Price i 6 returning with Panmure and Cease Fire, who have been* at the Dunedin fixture. Panmure Was successful in both "his starts, but Cease Fire contracted a cold, and was unable to start ai Wingatui.
The Dunedin Jockev Club's Autumn Meeting will be brought to a' conclusion to-day. Bore will attempt to win his third race at Wingatui, and his fifths in succession, but he may find himself unable to present ifoddito with 71b. A newcomer in the field is Glenfern, but he is making his first appearance in a hurdle race under a high scale of weights.
Eoval may be a better horse'than Bobert Bell over a six-furlongs course. There is no mistaking the easy manner in which the former won on the middle day, and of the others Twelfth Night, who finished in fourth place in the Publicans' Handicap, after a bad passage, may bo the best.
Hardshot, who has been consistent in his races, may be the-fancy in the Warrington Handicap, seven furlongs. Ho would have been placed second on Thursday had ho not stumbled at the riso of tho barrier.
J lie Jockoy Clnb Handicap, one mile and a quarter, will see the Cup winner, fiorkes Drift, in action, also the runnerup, Ardenvhor. At ton furlongs the latter may account for the Cup winner, as the opinion is pretty general that, better handled, the Martian colt would have won the Cup. Ho only lost tne verdict by ft very narrow margin, and was in trout a stride past the post.
Kilkee and Don Pacific© mar be the best liked in tho Hopeful Handicap, an<l ■Ounedm Cup, the owner Tefused I'SO disputing-tho issuo at tho finish of tho Welter Handicap.
The Hack Spring event has again filled vol, aud tii? favourites may be Cliarleviilo and Lion. J.lie latter was nearly down twice on tho opening day. Silent Way and Countess Tolstoi mav carry moat support in the Wingatui HandicaD.
It is reported that, after winning the Dunedtn Cup, the owner refused guineas for Korke's Drift. Tho offer was made on behalt of a well-known South Canterbury sportsman, who is trying to get hold of a National horse.
