A SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION

Raetihi, February 17. The seventh'annual show of the Wainarino Agricultural, Pastoral, Hortioul;ural, and "Industrial Association took place at llaotihi on Thursday in beautiful weather, and there was a very large gathering at the show'grounds, which are beautifully situated. These grounds comprise a reserve of 17 acres, about seven acres of which are cleared, tlio balanco being in standing busb. The show, on the whole, was a big success. fL'here was a record, general entry, and in practically all classes there was good representation, some, of . course, being better than others. The horticultural and industrial exhibition was very good, and a credit to the district.. In the horticultural division, Mr. J. H. Wil-. son won the points prize with 82. Mrs. George Whitaker, with ten points, won'the points prizes in the industrial section, H. Hall lieing 6econd .with 9. Sheep. There was an increased entry in the sheep .classes, tho aggregate being 143 is against 64 last year. Eomneys this pear took the lead in entries, and somo Sne animals wero penned. Tho three , highest awards in the points prizes wero ,is follow:—A) J. Laird, 37, 1; J. Risk, 1 S3> 2; 1). R. Hunt, 27, 3. The" first award • for crossbred wool went to Mr. E. A. Yoelkerling. Cattle. Cattle showed an ; increase of fully one hundred per cent, over last year; a good class was exhibited, the quality representing the types being developed :in the district. The chief' exhibitors were: C. D. Scarrow, R. Allen, G. (Berry, W. Merson, W. T\ Wise, the firsi>named scoring the points prize, to' which is att-iched a handsomo sil■Brer trophy. Horses. ~ There was a vory fine turn-out in the ring classes, big fields being -witnessed in the riding and driving competitions. The results were as follow:— ; Boy rider, under 10 —C. Smith, 1; V. The third wool sale of the season opened to-day. Competition was fairly keen, but, the quality of tho wool was not, up to that of last sale, much of the wool beins greosyj.this was due to a large propor. tion being back-country wool. The prices, which were woll up to those of the Wellington sale, wore 03 follow:—Fine crossbred, 182<L; first Romney lambs, 191 d.; cuoured crossbred, up to 23|d.; crossbred, up to 365 d.; bellies, 14d.; seourod half, bred; 20£ d.; crossbred hoggets, up to 13£ d.; crossbred .ewes, up to 15Jd.
