A meeting of local bodies' representatives to-day passed the following resolution;—" This _ disfrict cannot see its way to fall in with tho recruiting board scheme, and urges the Government to bring in conscription as soon as possible." . ANOTHER REQUEST FOR CONSCRIPTION.' Ashburton, February 18. The Ashburton County Council held a special meeting to-day in connection with tho recruiting scheme. Two resolutions were carried: (1) "That tho council agrees to assist the Government on linos suggested in the circular," and (2) "That tho Government be asked to bring in conscription." A majority of the council wero.against the liew scheme and strongly favoured conscription, but agreed that tho scheme must be given 'a fair trial. ' A FEILDING RESOLUTION. Feilding, February' 18. A conference of local bodies, held here-to-day, decidcd to give the new recruiting scheme a trial. Councillors' will ho asked to canvass their own ridings. An honorary recruiting officer at the meeting and others there expressed the opinion that as the Government had the National Registration cards, they should follow them up themselves instead of asking others to do the work.
