PROMISED OPHTHALMIC WARD
AND THE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL. "Thai; the Wo large unoccupied wards in tlie Ohildni's Hospital bo used temporarily as ophthalmic wards, provided that it is determined in the near future to make provision at tho General Hospital for special wards, for the treatment of car, eye, jiosc, and throat eases." The above recommendation was included in tho Hospital Committee's report to the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board's meeting held yesterday afternoon. ■ In regard to tho recommendation, Mrs. 'Wliford raised an emphatic protest against its adoption. She remarked that all would remember that she ' was cln'oily concerned in raising the money for'the ercction of the Children's Hospital, and she wished to make the strongest protest against tho use of tho rooms for any other purpose than for which thev were originally intended. 'l'ho chairman, in explaining the situation, said that an ophthalmic ward had been promised to Wellington for sevefal years, .hut for want of money it bad not boon gone on with. There were' two large rooms that wore now full of cobwebs and dust, there not having been tho amount of sickness anion" tho children as was expected hospital was erected. Under I hose conditions it was thought, expedient that tho rooms should be used lor ophihamic purposes until tliev could erect a proper ward, 'l'ho use of these two rooms would mean the releasing of twenty beds in the General Hospital, and if for tha-t reason alone lie thought the recommendation should be approved. After a lively discussion a vole was taken and t 1 ** rwonmcndation was Jmimnlf ani.
