TUBERCULOSIS
TEMPORARY RUSH OF CASES,
_In the course of the report of tho Tuberculosis Officer (Dr. Basil Adams) to the Hospital Board, for January, that official states: —
"There has been a temporary rush of cases suitable - for treatment at the Seddon Annexe this month. I was forced to admit .the extra men to the verandah of Ward 4 and tho women to the balcony of Ward C. I attribute this in part to the hot weather, always tho worst climate for advanced rases of consumption.
_ "On Thursday, January 20, I mentinned tho matter to the Acting-Medi-cal Superintendent (Dr. Moricc), and lv 3 thought the matter sufficiently urgent to approach the board. I was asked what suggestions I had to make, so I pointed out that it might be a temporary rush, and asked for tlie use of the ward called tho 'Tin Shed.' or the empty wards in the Children's Hospital. Both of these requests were refused. ajid the board decided to But- up a building immediately on the Seddon Annexe site. I roughly sketched out what I require, but another plan was eventually fixed, and the work is in course of ereetiigi now. The equipment and staffing of this extra ward should be considered forthwith." ■
The following motion was carried:— "That the report of the Tuberculosis Medical Officer be adopted, and that Dr. Adams's position be supported in his endeavour to snppress the introduction of alcoholic drinks into the Otald Sanatorium."
