ODDFELLOWS' CONFERENCE

ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The Oddfellows' Conference (Manchester Unity) was continued yesterday. The. sub-committee set up to consider the question of a war levy brought down its report. It -was decided that a rule he registered giving the Lodges power to make a levy of Is. per member per quarter, the amount to be paid into the district fund, to be known as tho Expeditionary Members' Contributions Fund. From that fund the Lodges would draw the contributions of all members serving in His Majesty's Forces beyond New Zealand.. At the closo of the war tho residue of the fund would be distributed amongst contributing Lodges.

The hospital scheme report was deferred for consideration to the next district conference, tho report, in the meantime, to be printed and circulated amongst Lodges. Bro. A. Perrin, P.P.G.M., was thanked for his services in connection with the report.

The business for the Biennial Moveable Committee, which will sit in Greymouth at Easter, was relegated to the delegates elected and the District Management Committee. A vote of thanks was passed to the Antipodean Lodge for entertaining the delegates, and £5 was voted towards the expenses of tho conference. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Prov. CM., Bro. A. M. Salek; Prov. D.G.M., Bro. A. C. Holmes; District Relieving Officer, Bro. W. H. Madeley,-. Prov. Books Examiner, Bro. A. Perrin; District Auditor, Bro. E. C. Ludwig; District Management Committee, Bros. W. M. Madeley, W. I. Clark, A. Zambra, A. J. Ibbotson, De Lacey, and A. Guise; Biennial Movable Committee delegates, Bros. G. E. Godber, D. P. Loasby, W. M. Madeley, A. Guise, and J. S. Wiley. The installation of officers was conducted by G.M. Bro.. J. Smith, assisted by his deputy, Bro. I. Salek. The insignia of office -was placed on tho new officers by Sisters Hall and White. •The retiring G.M., Bro. J. S. Wiley, was recommended to receive the degree of a P.P.G.M., to be presented with a gold jewel, and his name placed on the Management Board. Bro. R. Smith acted as District Tyler, and was accorded a vote of thanks for his services.
