! OVERPAID PENSION REFUNDED. «.U> Telcrray' Timaru, February 15. At the Magistrate's Court, Temuk3, to-day, and old age pensioner named Stokes was fined and ordered to refund amount of pension overpaid in consequence of a mis-statement of the amount of money he possessed. He had admitted a bank account of £50, but it ivas found by accident of notes getting wet and being hung on a line' in his hut; to dry, that he. had cash in hand, and when taxed, bj; the Clerk of the Court with this admitted that he had £40. ; At tho same Court, after four men had .been fined £1 each for a breach of tho borough by-law limiting the speed, of cars over crossings in the Main Street to six milese per hour, a simi-" iar charge against a fifth mau was dismissed. The solicitor who appeared for the defence argued that the by-law was invalid, as it was made under the Municipal Corporations Act, instead of the Motor Regulations Act, and the Magistrate concurred.
