In connection with the Nelson Jockey Club's annual meeting, it should be noted that all entries close on Monday next. There were sovcral trotting horses on the boat which sailed for Lyttelton last evening. Amongst them'ivas Chorus Girl, winner of the big event at the Nelson, meeting on Wednesday. P. Mason came up from the south yesterday in charge of Nonc-s. After entrainiug tko Martian filly" to Wanganui Mason returned home to Riccarton. R. O'Donncll was also on the train with Tho Toff. _ A. Oliver and C. Emerson went south last evening 011 their way to the Duncdin meeting', which opens on Wednesday next. In the Te Kuiti Cup, to bo Tun today, Tinopai has Bst. lOlb. Last year she won with 9st. 51b., and the year before she was also successful with Gst. 91b. A full-sister to El Gallo ill Lady Lobelia won the hurdle race at the recent Ngaruawahia meeting. El Gallo has already reached Wanganui to be finished oil for the AVanganui Cup, to be run at the ond of the month. C. Emerson is to ride Rorke's Drift in the Dunedin Cup on Wednesday. Tho Melbourne Cup winner Patrobus is at present a firm favourite for the Australian Cup, to be run on March 7. Another forfeit for the long-distance handicap is due on, February IS. Tecino, v/inner of the Electric Hack race at New Plymouth on Thursday, is the first of the stock of Danube to win a race. Tecino lyas formerly a member of R. J. Mason's team, bn( he is now : trained by 11. Barlow at New Plymouth. Rupnhu, who raced so well in the chief events at the Gisborne meeting, is a live-year-old gelding by Sabretache— Frolic, tho dam of Te Arai, a winner of the Grand National Steeplechase. Rupahu is said to be a promising sort for jumping races. Sabretache, who 19 by Cuirassier—Roie, by St. Leger or Captivator— - Hippona (dam of St. Hippo), has already distinguished himself by leaving some smart jumpers, Continuance being among his representatives. Tho Australian Rules of Racing debar a two-year-old from running olf a deadheat, but they do not prevent it from , taking part in two races on tho same . day. At the Australian Jockey Club's Anniversary meeting last month, Miss .
