NOW, AND AFTER

MR. NEWMAN, M.P., ON THE AVAR OUTLOOK. (By Telagraph—Special Correspondent.) Marton, February 11. Speaking at the opening of the Marton show yesterday, Mr. Edward Newman, M.P., referred to tho country's prospects now and after tho war. Mr. Newman said that if the Navy failed, then ho could only say that it would not bo tho prices of produce that, would trouble us. However, he could not contemplate such disaster. Speaking as a producer, ho was quite satisfied that for several years after tho war prices would fluctuate, but they wouH remain at high levels. He did not think that producing countries like New Zealand .would suffer, even after the war, and he expressed the opinion that-it was the duty of all the farmers in the Rangitikei to grow, in this much favoured cropping district, as much foodstuffs as the land would produce, thus employing labour nnd circulating plenty of money. In' this way they who wore unable to take part in the actual, war would do their bit, to cheapen the food of their fellowcitizens throughout the Empire.
