FIERCE FIGHTING IN THE WEST
SIGNIFICANT POINT SCORED BY THE ENEMY RUMOURED WRECK OF TWO ZEPPELINS RAID ON RAMSGATE By springing two Luge mines on the Arras-Lens sector of the lire, the Germans have managed to straighten their line,, and incidentally, according to the commentators, to score a point; but as fierce fighting continues the issue has yet to be definitely determined, for the strategical value of this point is apparently very great. The neutrality of Rumania seems to be nearing its termination j the pressure of tht> Aus-tro-German menace is beginning to be appreciated, and as one Italian journal points out, Rumania must not be deserted by the Allies in a crisis. Apropos of the situation, the newspapers draw attention to the value of the Russians' recent successes on the Dniester. American reports give details of a cruiser fight off the Bermudas, in which H.M.S. Drake is said to have engaged and captured the German cruiser Roon. Rumour, which in this war has been a fickle jade, states that two Zeppelins have been wrecked. German seaplanes have raided Ramsgate, on the Kentish coast,. ajid dropped bombs, but failed to accomplish anything. ...
