Fourteen years 'old on March 27, a boy in the Duke of Cornwall's L.I. is believed to be the youngest full private in the British Army. 1 NEW ZEALAND ENGINEER'S PRIVATE OPINION OP THE STUDEBAKER. Tile "ounst Motor Co., Hastings, knowing that we are closcly interested in Studebaker motors, have forwarded to us a copy of a Tengthy business letter sent them by Mr. Allan 11. Ji'Lean, the engineer of their firm, who is at present in Detroit, investigating the claims of tlio 19U> models of the great American automobile manufacturers. The Tourist Motor Co. have very courteously given us permission to publish extracts from the letter, and we extract the following paragraph as likely to interest owners mid prospective owners of Studebaker cars:— "My honest opinion about the Studebaker car is that it is the best value for money on tlie American market, and as far as tuiifft and workmanship are concerned it is second to none. 1 consider-that we would be foolish to take up the agency for any higher priced car that is built here, because if we repaint the Studeoaker and equip it with wire wheels it would be dqual to fhe Minerva in appear, ance and quietness of running. The enirino is the cleanest designed one that I fuive inspected." It may bo explained that llr. M'LeanV mission to America was to secure the agency of a high-priced American car to take the place of the firm's Silent Knight Minerva agency. There is a good market in Uawko'a Bay for the very best car obtainable, regardless of price. Mr. M'Lcan's honest opin'ion regarding the Studebaker is that there if 110 American car 011 the market better than the Studebaker at any price. The hve-seater touring Studebaker (4-cvlinder, 25 ii.p.), with electric self-sorter and electric lights, sells in New Zealand for J)315, the three-seatcr Studebaker, with same eouipmcnt, being priced at .£335.
