TBI 1318.-1C08.7 The Taranaki Jockey Club's autumn meeting will bo held to-day. The "Gisborne Fortnight" will be advancea a stag© to-morrow, "when, tho Povoity Bay lurf Clul> will commoncc its summer meeting. Entries for the Uamievirk© meetinj? at 9 p.m. 011 Saturday. Nominations tor the Nelsou Jockey Uubs anuual meeting close on Monday next Usually this meeting is well patronisea by locai owners, and tliis year will doubtless fiud a. large number present. • Tlio Nelson Cup is worth 300 sovs. ; Acceptances for the Woodviile meeting close to-morrow niglit. aeems to be the general opinion in tho south that First Glance will be numbered amongst ttw missing whtn tn-e Jjuiiedui Cup acceptances are published, aud in some quarters it is said that the last haa been seen on the racecourse of Mr. Gngg s good mare. This is matter ior regret, «is she was certainly one of tho best performers of recent times, and her long iist of victories will bear this out. I line and again sne met that good performer Chortle, and more often than not defeated hun. Her form draws attention to what a good horso Eniperador must be, as in the last C.J.C. Easter Handicap ho presented First Glance with Gllx, and defeated her by a length, while Chortle,, carrying the same weight, was third, and Ladoga (receiving a pound) was nest. The last-named then camo (o U ellwgton, and won the Thompson Handicap from Chortle, while tho MulJjfid gelding a week later scored in tho Gold Cup at Awapuni, and followed it up by taking out the Hawke's Bay Cup. No* was Eniperador idle at this time, for he defeated the great Desert Gold in the I'Uevenbh Manawatu Stakes,.six furlongs, the respective weight? being Emperador, fi3t. 71b., and Desert Gold, 7st. 121b. This will 6how the calibro of Emperador, and tho wonder is that he was not allowed to take his place in the Eginont Cup last week, in which ho was nicely handicapped at Bst. 71b., being one round more than he won with two years' ago. The Charlemagne II gelding is not exactly a strannev to a distance of ground, as in the Metropolitan Handicap, one mile and a half, at Ricoarton two years ago, he was only just beaten by Tannhauser, receiving 41b., and Koyal Arms, who had a concession of 171b. The first-named -won by half a head, while Emperador was a neck away. 'On these figures it would appear as if the Ricoarton horse haa to bo reckoned with in tho Taranaki Cup to-day, in which his impost is Bst. 131b. Middleton, who seems to get a distance well in second-class company, will bo a runner in the Mimi Welter Anndicap at Taranaki meeting to-day. In the Okato Hack Handicap Sylvandale is carrying 7st. 91b., and is receiving a stone and 31b. from the hurdle mare Florist. Sylvandale has recently been supported by her owner in much better company than she' is meeting to-day. In the Taranaki Cup to-day Bertrada, 7st. 51b., will be ridden by the Trentham light-weight, A. Eeed. Tho Highden mare has a big pnll in the weights, and In the absence of the two top weights should make the position most interesting for tho remainder. IT. Young, who rode Good Hope in the Middle Park Plate on Saturday, was successful in tho Same race twelve months ago, when he had the mount on Sir Geo. Clifford's colt Adjutant. Saturday's mount was really a chance one, for Young, as G. Clarko was already dressed with the colours on to ride Good Hope, when .R. J. Mason informed him that he was starting Greenstreet, and tho apprentice named had to ride the English-bred horse. A. Julian has been engaged to Tide Flingot in the hurdle events at tho Wanganui summer moeting. A. J. Jl'Fliun will have the mount on Black Northern at tho fixture. It is not often that Mr. G. D. Greenwood ajoes through a meeting at Eiccarton without getting in the list of winners. On Saturday he had six representatives carrying his colours, but a third to Swale in the Lyttelton Plato was his nearest approach to a win* The Cannie Chiel colt Good Hope gave ■Sir Geo. Clifford his ninth win in the Middle Park Plate. Stronghold, in 1005, was the first to carry the blue and gold clienuers to victory in this event, but in 1907' Glencullocli began a sequence of victories, for in successive years Fleetfoot, Sharpshooter, Madam Madcap, Antagonist, and Autumnus won for the Chokebore Lodge stable, and last season Adjutaut was successful.
