Ward Price, writing from Salonika on January 19, said: "The eyes of .tho Turks are turning ambitiously towards Egypt. It is doubtful whether this accords _ with German plans, as it was considered that_ Mesopotamia would likely be the principal German objective. The nearest lino of communications from Constantinople to the Tigris is less exposed to an Allied attack than the route to Egypt, through Syria, and across the Sinai Peninsula. "It is reported in Constantinople that two Turkish divisions which "fought at Gnllipoli are already on tho way to, Mesopotamia."
