: —® : MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. A meeting of tlio Eastbourne Borough Council was field on Friday evening, when the Mayor and all councillors were present. • The report of die Deserves Committee stated that considerable damage had been caused to tlio Domain beyond-the southern boundary of the borough by the recent grass iires. But for tlie valuable work performed by tho borough foreman and several residents the dam-' ago would liavo been-.much more extensive. The Town Clerk was instructed to write to each of the persons concerned conveying the appreciation of Uic council for tlio services rendered on the occasion in question. It was decided to draw tlie attention of the Agricultural Department to the prevalence of noxious weeds in the district, and to ask- tho Dopartmout to send one of its officers to make an inspection of the borough with a view to nction being taken aaginst certain property owners. Attention was drawn to the growing practice of equestrians riding their horses along the beaches, especially on Sundays and holidays, to the imminent danger of children and bathers. It was decidcd to ask permission of the Harbour Board to erect notices on the foreshore prohibiting the continuance of this practice. The Mayor reported that fresh overtures had been made to the Harbomr Board for permission to close the gates at the entrance to the Ferry Wharf in order to facilitate the handling of traffic, and that the Harbour Board had j consented to tho scliemo being given a trial for one week.
