HAIRDRESSERS DISPUTE
• —« NEW AGREEMENT SIGNED. The agreement in the hairdressers' dispute was signed by both parties in the presence of the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. P. Hally) yesterday. Tho representatives of the employers were: Messrs. M. Walsh, W. J. Walker, and 11. Houldsworth, and of tho men, Messrs. E. L. Doyle, Harrison, and W. J. Carrutliors. The chief features of the agreement are that the hours of work shall he fifty-two per woekj one day's work of each week shall bo not later than 6 p.m.; work shall cease not later than 7 p.m. on three days of the week, and not later than 9 oh the "lato night," which shall be either Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday. The usual conditions apply in respcct to holidays and meal hours. AA r ages aro fixed as follow:— First chairman or chairwoman, £3 ss. per week j other journeymen or journoywomen £3 per week; and if an employer works at a chair thirty hours in any one week he will be reckoned to bo first chairman. Apprentices are to serve five years, and will rise from 10s. a week to 355. per week. A clause has been inserted to prevent the ''leasing" of chairs. Preference is provided for, and tlie operation of the agreement is for a twenty-five mile radius from the G.P.0., Wellington. Application was made by the tradesmen of Petone and Lower Hutt to be allowed to keep thior saloons open until 8 p.m., but the application was unanimously refused.
