SOLDIERS GRIEVANCES

MR. ALLEN MAKES A FURTHER' STATEMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Assooiatloii, Auckland, Fobruary 5. The Hon. James Allen, Defence Minister, states that he intends to make personal investigation regarding soldiers' complaints, with a view to locating any flaw in the administration. In his original memorandum ho advised that when a soldier arrived by transport the Defoncc Department was responsible for his transport to hospital, and that when a man reached hospital tho Defence Department was to notify the Health Department. When a mail was discharged'from hospital it was the_ duty of the Health Department to notify the Defencc Department. It appeared this had not- been done systematically, with the result that occasionally when a man was discharged from hospital his pay warrants were compiled on a shilling a day (hospital) pay. So complaints arose.
