While berthing at the Wanganui town wharf on Saturday (states our special correspondent) the Canterbury Shipping Company's steamer Petone coflided with" the coal hulk Luna, forcing it against the traffic bridge. The Petone was carried along by the tide while turning to her berth, and the captain dropped an anchor, but the vessel was carried 011 to tho hulk, which was driven forcibly against the central piers of the bridge. No material damage was done. Messrs. NEW ZEALAND ENGINEER'S PRITATE OPINION OF THE STUDE- | BAKER. . , The Tourist Motor Co., Hastings, knowing that we are closely interested in Studobaker motors, have forwarded to us a copy nf a Tengfliy business letter sent them' by Mr. Allan n. M'Lean, too en. ijineer of tlieiT firm, who is at present in Detroit, investigating the claims of the x 1916 models of the great American automobile manufacturers. Tile lounst Motor Co. have very courteously given us permission to publish extracts iroin the letter, and we extract the following paragraph as likely, to interest owners and prospective owners of Studebaker cars: "My 'honest opinion about the Studebaker car is that it is the best value for money on tho American market, and as far as and workmanship are concerned it is second to none. I cousider that we would be foolish to take up tho agency for any higher priced cor that is built here, because if we repaint the StudeI baker and equip it with wire wheels it would be equal to flie Minerva in appearance and quietness of running. The ennine is the cleanest designed one that I havo inspected." It may be explained that Mr. M'Lean's mission to America was to secure tho agency of a high-priced American car to take tho place of the firm's Silent Knight Minerva agency. There is a good market in HawKo'a Bay for the very best car obtainable, regardless of prico. Mr. M'Lean's honest opin. ion regarding tho Studebaker is that tnera is no American car on the market better than the Studebaker at any price. The hve-seater touring Studobaker (1-cylinder, 55 h.p.), vith electric 6elf-:-«tsrter and electric lights, sells in New Zealand for .£345, flie thrcc-seatcr Studebaker, with sain® equipment, being priced <at .£335.
